Central "Tournament of Roses"
didn't break...did really bad...but not my fault cuz their topics were terrible (and it's a varsity tournament)...i got like a 4 4 2...ick.

wedneseday january 3rd - thursday january 4th = all-nighter! slept like an hour and a half. good times...first the mall (and sarah didn't show up becuz she thought it was the next day! sooo scary)...panera, gloria jean's, all the other stores...then my house. foosball, catch phrase, pizza, shirts, catch phrase (LOL), more food and cake and presents and scattergories, movie, magazines, random stuff...

january 6th (today): Reed-Custer "New Year's Invitational"
thought i did terrible. really. i knew i screwed up the first round, thought my second was pretty good, and killed my last one...but turns out I BROKE (totally unexpected). of course, i sucked at finals because i just can't speak in front of people i know. never have and most likely never will be able to. still, i managed to get 8th (out of nine...pathetic, i know. but still, it was fun) speaking on the sudan (we have like no sources on it...eek!). my judges contradicted each other, as always: 4 1 1. not bad, but then again, the coaches said (and we all know) that it was an easy tournament.

why is it that all breaks are too short?
~re

15

three words:
what
a
year

~re

december = my month

yea so...this is what's so great about diciembre so far:

wish for snow day came true

pre-leg ii = cancelled

broke finals at my first speech tournament

and the big new thing: I GOT MY BLACK BELT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! woot...totally got three stripes. sweetness. sho-dan right here. yea. sry. just got my results. so i'm realllly happy

anyway, back to what's so great about december

my birthday! yay. awesome plans this year!

my aunts are coming from taiwan (for the first time ever)

man, if only everything could be as perfect as december 06 has been.
~re

oh dang. ES

omg.
so
this was my saturday:
woke up at like 6:15am. got to school at 6:55a
did last minute box stuff and got these little sheets called schematics and started freaking and going to the LMC
totally missed my call...i'm K4 and they called me up and i didn't get up there til they were calling some other person. oops? oh well, i still got my topic. it was hard stuff man, intense. but i liked my first topic. prepping is pretty scary. it was so cool, tho, that like everyone would help. when i came back with "immigration", sarah and catherine were pulling out folders for me. and before, when sophie came back, they all jumped into action and i was like, ok i'm gonna help too! and so i gave her this time article. good stuff she said. anyway....there was no way i could practice. it is SO hard to concentrate at like 7:30am on saturday. yea.

so i got to my room for my first round and was supposed to go second. i was freaking out of course, and didn't mind that EVERYONE in my round was double-entered...meaning they need to go first. so i was last. pretty sweet. but uh, my speech was short and i left out some stuff. totally used my notecard.

and then i talked to sophie and drank tons of water and found out that we'd only be getting one prep time. so i did some things...i forget what. i know i did some practicing though. so i get to my second round, and the two ppl before sucked. at least i thought they did. the one girl was like clinging to her notecards. and this other guy had the worst word choice i've ever seen...and he used a notecard. and so i managed to not use my notecard (woot) and i thought my second round was amazing. yay. i get back to the lmc, and the notecard girl told me i was good and that there were two other girls before us, but that they sucked. and i was like oh, ok, thanks. you were good too.

then...i ate a granola bar. i was hungry. i walked around and uh, talked to some ppl. practiced, maybe? i kinda get the time between rounds mixed up. w/e.
so it's round three, and i go in my room. i see wart face. he's creepy. and i watch nivi's friend...not amazing....and then, (dun dun dun......dramatic music) i watch T1: Smith. the ultimate extemp and impromptu speaker...she was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo incredibly phenomenal. seriously, you'd think she'd rehearsed that speech fifty times already. it was flawless. yea, and she just had to go right before me. i go up there and god i died. i contradicted myself like every other line. i said so many things that i had never said before and i was thinking...wtheck am i doing? i'm not getting anywhere with this....
yea, and my judge was such a good actress. she showed absolutely no emotion, she had hard strokes when writing my critique during my speech and her eyes seemed to scream "you suck. shut up already." so i basically died my last round.

first round: ok. second: yay. third: ick.
i'm done early. i go eat and get two free pixies from a fellow speechie. talk a lil while. and kirsten freaks me out by saying "hi winnie..." out of nowhere. she was there for a bball game. then i go back to the lmc to do hw and call ppl. cat comes back and she had a bad day too. and then i go back to lunch after i finish the little chinese workbook. and....I SEE EMMA!!!!!! OMG. i was so happy! and then i talk to a bunch of other ppl. and the same thing happened to sheryl for her rounds. i didn't talk to olivia, kc, or niv much. olivia and nivi were so pumped though. they were running on something...and all of a sudden, ppl start crowding around the trophy cases. and i'm like what's going on? since i'm human, of course, i go and crowd around too. when i'm making my way to the cases, mr. simon points at me and says "go prep." i'm like "what?" somebody tells me i broke finals and i was like "omg no i didn't. i don't want to. i was gonna go do my hw!" i see the list and omg i'm seriously on there. i was like...how is this possible? i totally screwed up my last round! and in my first round, those ppl were experienced...i was the only novice....how in the world did i break finals?

but i did and there was lots of "omg" and screams and hugs and running to the lmc to prep. and i was freaking out.
yea...so finally, i get my topic. saddam hussein. i killed it. it was hard. i wished i coulda gotten something on iran or hezbollah...
anyway. finals sucked for me. so i came in last.
g2g

el primero de diciembre, la nieva primera

my wish came true!!!!!!!!!!!

WE GOT A SNOW DAY

sweetness. maybe i won't die this weekend lol...wow. we haven't had a snow day in at least five years. and isn't awesome how the first big snow of the year is on the first of december?

yea anyway, 16 days til my bday (and tim's lol)

yea, so i left my math book at school cuz i finished my hw. but now, i think i'm supposed to do the hw for the weekend...never thought i'd say this, but thank goodness i have speech tom! or else i wouldn't be able to do my hw or the precalc take home quiz (another one yay!)

~re

dang it

we don't get any more breaks before finals...ick

yea so thanksgiving was pretty awesome. going outside and swinging was the best part...oh yea, and good food too. and funny movie. hehehe cavity search...

so this weekend will kill me. for sure. the chaos starts on friday.
fri: speech set-up, then pre-leg ii in some town like an hour away. lake park was it? idk

sat: wake up at like 6:30a (which, apparently, is considered "late" on a speech morning) for the nv tournament (my first one ever, which means i will be FREAKING out). will be getting home sometime around 10p? fun, huh?

sun: wake up early to do all the chinese school hw i shoulda done this weekend...*cough* *cough*...then the torture begins (we actually have a test this week. like test test.) and then i meet niv to go up to palatine (fun huh? yea no. i hate carrides. road trips. w/e) and work my butt off for like half an hour, nonstop and hope that it gets me my black belt.

mon: school. enough said.
all that on top of hw and all the other stuff those crazy teachers throw at us. yay.

somebody shoot me.

jk
~re

ES

fyi: Extemporaneous Speaking (ES) - ES is an event in which a student has 45 minutes to prepare a speech on a topic using pre-gathered research materials. The speech is typically 5-8 minutes and length and deals with current events.
-from the speech site

so, when we get to the competition place (theres a new one every saturday...isnt that just great?), we draw three topics, and choose one to give a speech on...we get 45 min to practice it and all and then we deliver it. during the week, we spend lots of timing doing research, printing articles (because each speech needs 5-7 citations) and such. then, come saturday, we use our knowledge to give a speech extemporaneously. fun huh? NOT

yea so simon gave me this prompt: "To what extent has the Israel-Hezbollah conflict furthered the turmoil of the Middle East?"
something like that...

~re

no time

ok...highlights (good and bad)

made speech, but in extemp

failed the quarter test (like seriously. and DON'T talk to me about it...sry, but not even "it's ok, it's just one test" or anything like that. just...leave it. that's what i'm trying to do)

went trick-or-treating, but feel like i have a fever (i guess it kinda was too cold out)

got the reese's and hershey's i wanted, but don't actually like candy anymore

g2g
~re

i desperately need to breathe

i'm lost in stats again...u know, i had finally understood everything and gotten my grade up (kinda...i just did really well on the test) but now, everything's flying over my head. and we have a quiz (take home, that happens to be impossible) and i will definitely be killing my grade.

and i somehow need to find time to do my euro ec, precalc test tom, etc. etc. i have no time to talk about everything i need to do

i'm using coffee packs to calm myself. as in i open a pouch of ground coffee (like those they give you for free in hotels and stuff) and smell it. i love the smell of coffee.

and i just ate some peanut butter. i love how it just "sticks"...creamy....yum

~re

HOMECOMING WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!

ok, since i have no time left, here's a slim-fast version of the most amazing night of my life so far:
after pix @ olivia's...
DINNER AT CARRABBA'S: the BEST italian restaurant EVER! omg our table had so much fun! we were laughing so hard! ok, so after sarah like cracked her plate after our toast (not literally...but it was LOUD), she dropped her knife. and then we were all laughing and sarah snorted, olivia choked, and nivi had water come out of her nose (not like splurting out, just like...yea). and then lavanya turned around to offer us some tic-tacs and was shaking the box and i SCREAMED. for some odd reason, i was freaked out by the sound of tic-tacs? idk it was hilarious though and some other tables did like triple takes....but w/e, we were enjoying ourselves.

ok, so then we got to school and omg the decorations were BEAUTIFUL! props to student co who did amazing with it!!!!!!!!! and then, after coat check (getting out of those heels felt good) was DANCING. . good stuff. saw lotsa ppl but didn't take very many pix...like less than 20? last year was like 100+. this year's hc was better than last year's. so glad i went.

so halfway through the dance someone tripped over the DJ's cord or something, and there was no music for like five or ten minutes...and then we ran outta water and i was like dying of thirst. jen's b/f was really nice tho and he helped tip the cooler thing so i could get some...but then i offered him mine cuz when i tipped it for him, none came out. he said no thanks tho. he's so nice! and so's jen!

i stepped in water like four times...so gross and by the end of the dance my feet were black and i was sweaty!

it was so much fun even tho half the time i either couldn't breathe (SO crowded) or was trying to find people...good times tho. loved it!

well, great for my last hc! i wish a lot more ppl coulda gone, but it was still worth it and i'm so glad i went and that a lotta my friends ended up going!

~re
p.s. yea nancy, this song is by the same guy who sang tong hua...and shawn, what's the name of the japdrama?
